PTFE is a fluoride-containing thermoplastic. It is the most chemically and thermally resistant of all plastics, resistant to almost all aggressive substances and can also be used in the food industry. PTFE also has excellent dry running properties and is therefore preferred for seals, but also for guide elements with low lubrication and high sliding speeds. Its abrasion resistance is generally low. Under pressure, PTFE materials tend to cold flow. This can be counteracted by fillers such as bronze, glass fibers, carbon, or MoS2.
